Department of German Language and Literature

Ioanna Karvela is Associate Professor for Applied Linguistics and Didactics for German as a foreign languagein the Department of German Language and Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her main research interests are located in the areas: Lexicology, Theory of Reading Comprehension, Textlinguistics and their applications in Learning German as a foreign language.

Undergraduate studies at the University of Athens (German and Greek Language and Literature), German state scholarship for postgraduate studies at the University of Siegen (Germany), Ph.D. in Kontrastive Linguistics at the University of Siegen; Title of thesis:The Foreign and the Ours. Evaluation of the position of foreign words in German and Greek language.

Member of the steering committee of the Institute for German Language (Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache) based on Wiesbaden and office manager in the Athens Department of this institute.Scientific Coordination for the exchange of students and teaching staff with the University of Regensburg.
