Marios Chrissou is full Professor at the Faculty of German Language and Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he works since 2001. His area of expertise is Linguistics and Didactics of German as a foreign language. He completed his studies (Magister Artium) at the University of Essen and was awarded his PhD by the same university. From 1998 to 2000 he worked as a Research Associate at the Department DaF/DaZ (German as a Second/Foreign Language) at the University of Essen. In the academic year 2001-2002 he was employed as DAAD-Lecturer (German Service of Academic Exchange) at the Faculty of German Language and Literature at the University of Athens. Since 2006 he teaches Linguistics in the postgraduate Programme of the Faculty of German Language and Literature at the University of Athens. Since 2001 he is a tutor, since 2002 coordinator and since 2017 director of the Postgraduate Programme “Teaching of German as a Foreign Language” at the Hellenic Open University Patras (EAP).
Since 2021 he is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Society of Phraseology (Europhras). Since 2022 he participates in an international research project in the framework of Erasmus+ "Cooperation partnerships in higher education" entitled "Plurilingual Phraseology: learning multiword units through English”.
His research interests include Phraseology/Phraseodidactics and digital technologies in teaching German as a foreign language. He has published four books and numerous articles in these research areas, in local and international journals as well as in conference proceedings.
